Holistic Educational Mission (HEM Ashram) is a charitable non-profit organization serving disadvantaged segments of the Indian population since 2008. They mainly address the needs of poor and orphaned children, youth, women, and the rural poor. HEM Ashram is committed to meet the holistic needs of this weaker section of society.
HEM mainly works with the tribal "Dang" people spread around Dang, Valsad, Navsari, and Silvassa regions. Multiple tribes such as the Warli, Kunbi, and the Bhil call this region home, and are together knowns as Dangi's or Kukna's. These people are largely dependent on farming for their livelihood, now that the forests they depended on for their sustenance have disappeared. These are historically neglected people with high levels of illiteracy and limited outside help.
HEM's mission is to work towards the empowerment of the orphans, women, and tribal poor in living a life of dignity, to recognize their potential, to help them embrace change, and encourage participation in their educational programs.
